Fitzgerald, Clayton, James & Kasten Inc., lays claim to the title of Wisconsin's oldest insurance agency. Since 1850, we've been providing insurance services to businesses, employees, individuals and families. Our century and a half of history notes some of Milwaukee's most prominent family names. In 1955, George H. Russell Co. merged with Norris & Fitzgerald forming the Norris, Fitzgerald & Russell Co., Inc. The Norris & Fitzgerald agency traces its origins back to the 1850's. In 1962 the agency merged with Blatz-Kasten and the name Fitzgerald, Clayton, Noyes & Kasten, Inc. was adopted. Frederick Kasten was named chairman of the board with Norman Fitzgerald president, Robert Clayton, Sr., vice president and secretary and William Hoppenjan assistant secretary. In 1987, the firm was purchased by Charles James, and the present name was adopted. Charles son, Todd James was part of the 1987 purchase and has held numerous positions in insurance since 1981. Todd became Chairman and CEO in 1996. Todd traces his insurance lineage back to the 1800's. His Great Great Grandfather, Alfred James, began the family's insurance tradition after impressing executives at Northwestern National Insurance Co. with his ability to evaluate claims from the great Chicago fire of 1871. He went on to become President of Northwestern National in 1887. Todd's Great Grandfather, Alfred F. James also became President of Northwestern National as did Todd's Grandfather, Charles James. Todd is the fifth generation James member to work in the insurance industry in Milwaukee. Today Fitzgerald, Clayton, James & Kasten, Inc. has established teams of experienced professionals in the following areas: commercial, small business, employee benefits, health care and personal lines.
